Intraregional Trade in Mercosur: Pending Issues

Assessment of trade among Mercosur partners and proposals to deepen productive integration.

Sofía Galiani
Policy brief ⎯ 29 de junio de 2026

Mercosur’s intraregional trade represents only 12% of the bloc’s total trade, a figure significantly lower than that recorded in other integration agreements such as the European Union (60%) or the USMCA (40%). This low trade intensity reflects both residual tariff barriers and connectivity infrastructure deficiencies.

Industrialization is not a luxury but a necessity for developing economies.
