Energy Transition and the Role of Natural Gas in Argentina

Vaca Muerta as a bridge towards a cleaner energy matrix: export potential, pending infrastructure, and the decarbonization challenge.

The Vaca Muerta formation represents one of the most important unconventional gas reserves in the world. Its development has transformed Argentina’s energy balance, converting the country from a net importer to a potential exporter of liquefied natural gas.

However, the global energy transition imposes temporal constraints on the exploitation of these resources. The window of opportunity to monetize hydrocarbon reserves narrows as developed economies accelerate their decarbonization commitments.

Industrialization is not a luxury but a necessity for developing economies.
